Description
Bonn Suture Forceps, 1×2 Teeth, 0.12mm
The Bonn suture forceps is a 10cm micro tool with very small 1×2 teeth. The teeth measure 0.12mm, so they bite into thin tissue with almost no tear. Many surgeons keep one on the tray for corneal and cataract wound work.
Why 0.12mm teeth matter
Small teeth spread less force over the tissue they hold. As a result, they grip the cornea or sclera without leaving a ragged mark. That is useful when you close a small incision and want the edges to line up well.
The 10cm frame in the hand
At 10cm, the Bonn pattern is long enough for a pencil grip. Still, it stays light and quick to turn. You can rest your wrist and work with small finger moves, which keeps the tip steady under the microscope.
Good fits for this tool
- Holding a corneal lip while the needle passes
- Grasping the sclera near a tunnel wound
- Fixing tissue as you tie a fine knot
- Gentle traction at the limbus
How to look after the teeth
Teeth this fine bend if they hit a hard tray. So always set the forceps down with care. Also clean it soon after the case, then check the teeth under magnification before you pack it.
Using it with other micro tools
In most kits, this forceps works with a micro needle holder and a tying forceps. For example, the Bonn tips hold the wound while the holder drives the needle. Then you switch to the tying forceps to finish the knot.
It ships non-sterile. Put the Bonn pair through cleaning and sterilization, and it is ready again. The fine Bonn jaws use stainless that follows ASTM F899, the usual standard for surgical steel. If a fault traces back to the build, the Bonn pattern carries Bonn cover for three years against manufacturing defects; Bonn teeth included. See the eye surgery collection, the shorter St. Martin forceps, or our FAQ list for more.
