Description
Blake Uterine Curette, Sharp/Blunt
The Blake uterine curette pairs a sharp edge on one side with a blunt edge on the other. Gynecologists use it to scrape and sample the lining of the uterus.
Sharp and blunt in one
The sharp side removes endometrial tissue with a firm stroke. However, the blunt side gives a gentler pass along the uterine wall. So the surgeon can switch edges without changing instruments.
Curettage and sampling
Dilation and curettage collects endometrial tissue for pathology. Also, surgeons use a curette to remove retained tissue from the cavity. Then the sample goes to the lab.
About 27 cm long
The length reaches the fundus through the dilated cervix. Also, your fingers stay clear of the speculum blades. Therefore, the Blake uterine curette sits comfortably in a standard D&C set.
Choosing a curette
Pick this double-edged pattern when you want both actions in one tool. By contrast, a single-edge curette offers just one type of stroke. That way, a D&C set can carry fewer pieces.
Reprocessing Blake uterine curette
Clean the edges carefully, since tissue can cling to the sharp side. First, soak and rinse, then brush toward the tip. Finally, dry the Blake uterine curette and cover the edges before storage.
