Description
Beckmann Adenoid Curette
The Beckmann adenoid curette is one of the best known patterns for adenoidectomy. Surgeons use it to scrape adenoid tissue from the nasopharynx in children and adults.
How the curette works
First, the surgeon passes the blade behind the soft palate and against the adenoids. Then a controlled sweep removes the tissue. As a result, the nasal airway opens.
Shapes and blade sizes
We offer straight and curved versions, both at 22 cm. In addition, each shape comes with a 13, 15, 17, 21 or 23 mm blade. That gives ten options in total.
Straight or curved
A straight curette gives a direct line of force. However, a curved shaft may reach more comfortably behind the palate. So surgeons often choose the shape they trained with. Some departments stock both, which lets each surgeon use a favorite.
Choosing blades
Match the blade size to the age and size of your patients. For example, small children may need a 13 or 15 mm blade. Adults, by contrast, often need the larger sizes.
Caring for your Beckmann adenoid curette
When the case finishes, rinse the curette promptly. Next, wash the blade and the long shaft with warm water and a soft nylon brush. Then dry it thoroughly and sterilize it with the edge protected.
