Barraquer-Llovera Fixation Forceps
The Barraquer-Llovera fixation forceps is a compact 9 cm tool. It holds the globe still while you cut, enter or close a wound. Also, its short body keeps your hand close to the eye, which many surgeons find calm and precise.
A shorter Barraquer pattern
This forceps shares its purpose with the 10 cm Barraquer. However, at 9 cm, it sits a little lower in the hand. That helps when the brow or nose limits your angle of approach.
- Compact 9 cm length
- Fixes the globe with a small bite
- Steadies wound edges for suturing
- Reusable after reprocessing
Where the Llovera helps
Typical uses include fixing the globe during a corneal incision or a cataract wound. Then it can steady the wound edge while a suture goes in. Still, it is not built for tying, so keep a tying forceps nearby.
Tips for a calm grip
Use only the pressure you need, because too much grip can tear conjunctiva. Also, keep your wrist steady and move from the fingers. If the eye rotates, re-grip rather than pull harder.
Matching your tray
Surgeons often build a tray around one length. So if most of your forceps run short, the 9 cm Llovera will feel familiar. Conversely, longer trays suit the 10 cm Barraquer better.
After each list
First, rinse off blood and fluid. Then wash the forceps and dry them fully. Finally, check the tips for alignment under magnification, since a small gap reduces grip on fine tissue.
Ordering your Llovera forceps
Each forceps ships non-sterile and stays reusable. Any Llovera you buy holds three years against manufacturing defects as standard. Llovera tips use surgical stainless to ASTM F899. For the longer twin, see the 10 cm Barraquer fixation forceps. Our eye surgery instrument range lists more, and the Intrace FAQ covers payment.
