Description
Bane Bone Rongeurs, Slightly Curved
Bane bone rongeurs are a classic dental pattern with jaws that curve slightly away from the handles. This model is 18 cm, or 7 inches, long. The gentle curve helps the tips follow the shape of a dental arch.
Why a slight curve helps
A ridge is rarely flat. Therefore, a jaw with a small curve sits closer to the bone along its length. As a result, each bite removes an even amount, and the ridge stays smooth.
Size and reach
At 18 cm, the Bane is one of the longer standard rongeurs. That length gives good leverage on dense bone. However, it still fits a normal tray and works well in the anterior and premolar regions.
Where it is useful
- Smoothing sockets after multiple extractions
- Reducing bony ridges before a denture
- Removing small exostoses
- General contouring in oral surgery
Handling the Bane
Grip the handles in the palm and close them with a steady squeeze. Then lift away each chip before the next bite. Hold the jaws level against the bone, so the curve does the shaping rather than your wrist.
Pairing it on the tray
The Bane works well beside a shorter, finer rongeur. In that setup, the Bane does the bulk contouring first. Then the smaller tool refines the last edges, which saves time and keeps both tools in good shape.
Aftercare
Bone dust packs into the jaws quickly. So brush them out as soon as the case ends. After that, rinse, dry the hinge, and lubricate it lightly.
The Bane arrives non-sterile, then goes back on the tray after every wash and sterilizer run. Its stainless body meets ASTM F899. Every Bane carries three years against manufacturing defects, Bane jaws and hinge included. For a pattern with seven jaw figures, compare the Cleveland rongeurs.
