Ballenger Septum Knife

The Ballenger septum knife is a swivel knife for septal surgery. Surgeons use it to cut and remove a strip of septal cartilage in septoplasty and submucous resection.

A swivel design

A swivel knife has a blade that pivots as it moves. Therefore it can follow the plane of the cartilage while the surgeon pushes and pulls. As a result, it cuts a strip of cartilage in a smooth motion.

Six options

We offer a 20 cm knife in straight or curved shapes. Each shape comes with a 3 mm, 4 mm or 5 mm blade. So you can pick from six combinations.

Choosing blade and shape

A narrow 3 mm blade removes a thin strip. Meanwhile, the 5 mm blade takes a broader one. The curved shape can help when the approach angle is awkward, while the straight shape suits direct access.

In a septoplasty

First, the surgeon raises flaps on both sides of the cartilage. Next, the swivel knife removes the deviated strip. Then the flaps return to cover the septum.

Clean around the swivel joint carefully, since tissue can lodge there. Rinse well and dry every part. Finally, sterilize it with the blade protected.
