Description
Arruga Retractor
The arruga retractor holds tissue out of your way, so the area you need stays open and in view. It bears the name of Hermenegildo Arruga, the Spanish eye surgeon behind many classic tools. We offer it as a single pattern with no extra options.
What a retractor adds to an eye case
Small fields close in fast. Tissue edges fall back, and the view shrinks. A retractor stops that. In practice, an assistant holds it steady while you work with both hands. As a result, you spend less time fighting the field and more time on the task.
Fitting the Arruga into your tray
Arruga patterns turn up in many general eye sets. This retractor pairs well with fine forceps, scissors and a speculum. However, it is not a lid speculum, and it will not hold the lids apart on its own. So think of it as a hand-held helper for tissue control.
Steady retraction, step by step
- Place the blade under the tissue edge with a light touch.
- Pull back slowly to open the view.
- Keep the same angle while the surgeon works.
- Ease off pressure every few minutes on long cases.
Reprocessing the Arruga blade
Blood and tissue settle on the blade face, so wipe it during the case if you can. Afterwards, soak it briefly, then scrub both faces and the handle with a soft brush. Rinse and dry. The Arruga retractor arrives non-sterile, so sterilize it before you first put it on a tray. It then serves case after case.
Backing for your Arruga
Should this Arruga blade fail through a build flaw, Arruga owners hold three years against manufacturing defects with our Atlanta team. We buy steel that meets ASTM F899. Find more retractors and eye hooks in our range, or view the Arruga hook that shares the name. For orders, see our FAQ.
Sold only for professional use. Our retractor care notes and how we ship Arruga tools have the details.
