Description
Arruga Hook
The arruga hook is a fine eye hook named after Hermenegildo Arruga, a noted eye surgeon from Barcelona. It lets you catch, lift or hold tissue with a small curved end. We offer it as one pattern.
What the Arruga does in a case
A hook gives you control where forceps would crush or slip. You can slide the curved end under tissue and lift it into view. Then you can hold it while you work with your other hand. In short, it is a simple but useful tool. Many surgeons keep one on a general eye tray for the odd moment when nothing else will do.
Arruga tools on the tray
Arruga’s name appears on several eye tools, from forceps to retractors. This hook sits well beside them in a general eye set. However, it is not a muscle hook for strabismus, so pick a dedicated pattern for that work.
Arruga handling notes
- Hold it lightly, like a pen.
- Slide the hook under tissue rather than pushing down.
- Keep the tip in view at all times.
- Look for bends at the hook before each case.
Keeping the Arruga hook clean
Flush the Arruga under running water before blood dries on the bend. Then work a fine brush around the inside of the curve, where tissue likes to lodge. An ultrasonic bath also helps with small hooks. Dry the hook fully, since water spots can dull the finish. Because each Arruga leaves us non-sterile, a validated cycle comes before its first case. With that habit, the hook stays ready for years.
Arruga guarantee
Arruga hooks from us carry three years against manufacturing defects; an Arruga with a build flaw gets swapped. We use steel that meets ASTM F899. Our eye hooks and retractors include the Arruga retractor as a partner tool. Our FAQ section covers orders.
