Arruga Capsular Forceps
The Arruga capsular forceps is a classic name in cataract history. It measures 10 cm. Surgeons once used capsule forceps of this kind to grasp the lens capsule during intracapsular extraction. Today, some still keep one for capsule or membrane tasks.
A piece of cataract history
Hermenegildo Arruga worked in Barcelona and wrote widely on eye surgery. His capsule forceps became a standard tool in its time. As a result, many older trays still carry one.
Uses in a modern setting
Most cataract surgery now uses small incisions and other tools. However, some surgeons still reach for a capsule forceps in special cases. Others keep it for teaching or for a complete set.
- 10 cm length
- Classic capsule forceps pattern
- Shorter Gill-Arruga also available
- Ships non-sterile; reusable
Comparing Arruga patterns
We also stock the Gill-Arruga at 8 cm. So if you want a shorter version with the same heritage, compare the two. The standard Arruga gives more reach for a pencil grip. Also, both share the same basic grip.
Check the tip in the photo
The Arruga page lists a single 10 cm size with no tip choices. Therefore, review the product image before you order. If you need help, ask us and we will confirm the details.
Caring for an Arruga
Rinse the tips right after use, then brush them gently. Next, dry the forceps and inspect the tips under magnification. Finally, store it with a guard so the Arruga tips stay clear of heavier tools.
Ordering an Arruga
It arrives non-sterile and stays reusable. Arruga buyers also get three years against manufacturing defects. Each Arruga uses steel that meets ASTM F899. For the shorter cousin, see the Gill-Arruga capsular forceps. You can browse more eye surgery tools and read our FAQs as well.
