Amsler Eye Cannula
The Amsler eye cannula is a fine eponymous pattern for work in the anterior chamber. Amsler’s name is tied to classic studies of the aqueous and the macula. Because this cannula attaches to a syringe, it gives careful control at a small entry.
Typical anterior chamber tasks
A fine cannula like this can draw a small aqueous sample, rinse the chamber, or deliver fluid through a paracentesis. We describe these as general uses. However, your own method should guide how you use it.
What you receive
One Amsler pattern is offered, with no size choices. Since there is nothing to choose, reorders stay quick. Each unit includes:
- Fine tube for small entries
- Syringe hub
- Amsler eponymous pattern
- Reusable steel body
Technique notes
Use a small syringe for the best control. First, steady the globe with forceps if needed. Then enter at a shallow angle, parallel to the iris. Draw or inject slowly, and watch the chamber depth throughout. Also, keep a dry swab nearby in case of a small leak at the entry.
Choosing an Amsler
Generally, pick the Amsler if you need a fine, simple cannula for chamber access. In contrast, choose a knife cannula when you also need to cut. For example, a simple paracentesis rinse needs only the Amsler, while a capsule step may need a cutting tip.
Care for a fine tube
Fine tubes block easily. So push water through the bore the moment the case ends. After that, soak, rinse and dry it with air. Check the tip for burrs under magnification. It arrives non-sterile; full cleaning and an autoclave cycle make it ready for the next patient.
