Description
Adson Self-Retaining Retractor
The Adson self-retaining retractor holds a wound open by itself once the surgeon spreads it. Neurosurgeons often use it for posterior fossa and spinal exposures, where muscle needs steady retraction.
Hands-free retraction
A self-retaining design frees the assistant’s hands. Once opened, the toothed arms grip the wound edges and keep them apart. Therefore, the team can focus on the deeper work instead of holding tissue back.
Three configurations
We stock three versions. The 25 cm model has 3 x 4 teeth. At 33 cm, the arms carry 4 x 5 teeth, and you can choose sharp or blunt teeth for it. Longer arms suit deeper wounds, while the shorter model fits smaller openings.
Sharp or blunt teeth
Sharp teeth bite firmly into muscle and hold well in thick tissue. In contrast, blunt teeth press rather than pierce. So, they may suit areas near vessels or thin tissue layers.
Choosing the right one
First, estimate the depth and length of your usual incision. Next, decide how much grip you need at the edges. For instance, a lumbar approach in a larger patient may call for the 33 cm version with sharp teeth.
Caring for your Adson self-retaining retractor
Open the retractor fully and rinse between the teeth right after surgery. Then brush the joint and the locking area carefully. Dry every part and sterilize the retractor in the open position.
