The lead-filled Williger mallet carries extra weight inside its head. As a result, each blow transfers more energy into the osteotome and bounces back less.

Why fill a head with lead

A dense core adds mass without making the head larger. So the surgeon gets a solid, controlled strike from a compact tool. Moreover, a heavy core damps the sharp ring that a hollow steel head can give.

Three head sizes

You can choose a 26, 28 or 30 mm head. The smaller head suits fine chisels and small bones. Meanwhile, the 30 mm head delivers firmer blows for dense cortex.

Where the lead-filled Williger mallet fits

Oral, maxillofacial and orthopedic teams use it with osteotomes, chisels and gouges. It also suits hand and foot work, where controlled force matters. In short, it gives power without a bulky head.

Matching mallet to blade

Thin blades need light, repeated taps, so pick the 26 mm head for them. By contrast, broad osteotomes in dense bone call for the 30 mm version. Many trays carry two sizes for that reason.

Looking after the head

Wipe blood and bone dust off the faces after each case. Then wash, rinse and dry the mallet fully. Inspect the faces for dents, since a damaged face can chip instrument handles.
