Wilder Lachrymal Probe

Description

Wilder Lacrimal Probe

The Wilder lacrimal probe is a slim instrument for the tear drainage passages. It comes in figure 1, 2 or 3. The figure sets the size, so you can match the tool to the punctum in front of you. Some lists spell it lachrymal.

Picking a figure

Order one figure if you know the size you use most. However, many teams buy all three, since puncta vary from patient to patient. With a full set, you can step up in size as needed.

The Wilder pattern in use

Wilder instruments are a familiar name in lacrimal work at the punctum and canaliculus. The slim shape lets you enter a small opening with control. Then you advance with care, keeping the force low. If the canal feels tight, step back and widen the punctum first, because a gentle start makes the rest easier.

Tips for safe use

• Expose the punctum by gently turning the lid out
• Start with the smallest figure that fits
• Advance slowly and never force
• Stop if the patient feels sharp pain

Fitting it into your set

A typical tear duct set holds dilators, probes of several sizes and a cannula for irrigation. The Wilder figures add a slim option for the first steps. In addition, they make handy spares.

Labeling Wilder figures

Rinse each piece soon after use. Then dry it and look along the shaft for bends. Also keep the figures in a labeled rack, because they look alike at a glance.

Each Wilder figure arrives non-sterile and stays reusable through repeat cleaning and sterilization. We use stainless per ASTM F899 for every figure. Each Wilder figure has a Wilder warranty of three years against manufacturing defects; Wilder figures 1 to 3 all count. See our eye instrument listings, the Harms probe, or our FAQ topics.
