Weitlaner-Wullstein Retractor

The Weitlaner-Wullstein retractor is a self-retaining retractor for otology. It combines the familiar Weitlaner idea with a size suited to ear and mastoid incisions.

Two names, one purpose

Weitlaner retractors appear across many surgical specialties. Meanwhile, Horst Wullstein helped develop modern tympanoplasty. This hybrid pattern brings a self-retaining spread into the smaller scale of ear surgery.

About 13 cm, with 3×3 teeth

The instrument measures about 13 cm. Each arm ends in three teeth, so the listing reads 3×3. That layout grips the wound edge at several points and spreads the pull.

Blunt or sharp

We stock Blunt and Sharp prong versions. Blunt prongs rest against tissue with less trauma. Sharp prongs, however, bite in and resist slipping when the flap is thick.

Building the ear tray

A typical otology tray holds one or two self-retaining retractors. For example, this pattern can open a postauricular incision while a smaller one holds a second direction. Ask us which combination would suit your cases.

Caring for your Weitlaner-Wullstein retractor

Leave the arms open while rinsing, because tissue hides between the teeth. Next, brush each tooth row and flush the joint. Dry the instrument well before it goes to the sterilizer.
