Description
Vannas Mod. Tubingen Secondary Cataract Scissors
These Tubingen secondary cataract scissors are a modified Vannas design for fine membrane cuts. They keep the light spring action of the Vannas family. However, they come in three blade forms instead of two.
What secondary cataract means
After cataract surgery, a thin film can form or remain behind the implant. Surgeons call this a secondary cataract or secondary membrane. When it needs a surgical cut, fine scissors like these can open it. They also suit other thin, delicate cuts inside the eye.
Three ways the blades can sit
The three forms differ in how the blades meet the shaft. Look at the product photos to see each one before you order.
- Standard: blades in line with the shaft.
- Angled: the blade tips bend away to the side.
- Angled on flat: the bend runs across the flat face of the blades.
Choosing among the three
If your approach is direct, start with standard. When you need to reach around a corner, an angled form helps instead. Many surgeons find the angled-on-flat form useful for cuts that run across the field. So think about the line of each cut.
How this modified pattern differs
We list this as a modified version of the Vannas scissors. Its basic spring action and small blades stay the same. For this reason, surgeons who know the Vannas feel will find it familiar. If you need a precise detail of the change, our team can help.
Rinsing and checking the blades
Rinse the blades right after use, since thin membrane can dry on them. Then brush out the pivot gently. Next, test the cut on fine tissue paper. Finally, store them in a tray with a guard over the tips.
Ordering the Tubingen pair
Tubingen pairs come non-sterile. Run them through your usual cleaning and sterile steps, then reuse. A Tubingen build flaw sits within three years against manufacturing defects cover. Tubingen steel meets ASTM F899. For the classic version, see the standard Vannas membrane scissors. You may also like our full line of eye tools, and our FAQ hub answers common points.
