Description
Universal Wire Cutting Scissors
The universal wire scissors cut fine wire and tough sutures. Two blade options, a saw edge or tungsten carbide with one serrated blade, suit different workloads.
Blade options
The saw edge version grips wire so it does not slide. By contrast, the tungsten carbide version keeps its edge much longer under heavy use.
Size of the universal wire scissors
At 13 cm, the scissors are compact and easy to control. In addition, they fit neatly in most trays.
Typical uses
In theatre, they trim fine wire and heavy sutures; in dental rooms, ligature wire. They also trim wire ends after twisting.
Technique
Seat the wire close to the pivot and squeeze firmly in one motion.
Why tungsten carbide
Carbide inserts resist wear from hard wire. As a result, the scissors stay sharp between services.
Dedicated use
Keep wire scissors for wire only. Otherwise, cutting tissue with them dulls them faster.
Universal wire scissors on mixed trays
Because they handle both fine wire and heavy suture, these scissors suit trays shared between theatre teams. As a result, one compact pair covers jobs that might otherwise need two.
