Description
Tongue and Cheek Retractor, 14 cm
A tongue and cheek retractor gives your assistant one tool for two jobs. It holds the cheek out of a buccal approach, or it presses the tongue down and away from a lingual site. At 14 cm, or 5-1/2 inches, it stays short enough to manage in a small mouth.
Why 5-1/2 Inches Works Chairside
A short retractor sits close to the face. As a result, the assistant can brace a hand on the chin and hold steady for long periods. Longer patterns give extra leverage on a heavy cheek, but they also crowd the space where the surgeon wants to work.
Switching Between Tongue and Cheek
Mid-procedure, the field often moves from buccal to lingual. Then the same instrument simply turns to the new side, so nobody hunts for a second retractor. In mandibular molar surgery, for example, it can hold the tongue while you raise a lingual flap. Afterwards it returns to the cheek for closure.
Comfort for the Patient
Smooth, rounded edges matter because the retractor rests on soft tissue for the whole case. Even so, ease off pressure every few minutes, since steady force against the cheek tires the patient. A little lubricant on dry lips also helps.
Our Promise on This Retractor
A person at our Atlanta location, inside the United States, looks over the blade edges of each retractor before it ships. It is sent non-sterile, so wash and sterilize it before it meets a patient. Should the steel or finish prove defective from production, you may claim under this retractor’s three years against manufacturing defects coverage.
The stainless steel is specified under ASTM F899. You can see other designs in Surgical Retractors, while the Minnesota retractor makes a good companion for cheek and flap work. Shipping and returns answers are in the FAQs.
Retractors are supplied for trained dental and surgical teams. Please read our care instructions and delivery terms.
