Description
Stille-Luer Bone Rongeur Forceps
The Stille-Luer rongeur is a heavy, double-action bone nibbler. Its compound joint multiplies hand force, so it bites through dense bone that would stall a lighter rongeur.
Double action in a rongeur
Two pivots link the handles to the jaws. As a result, a moderate squeeze turns into a powerful bite. The spring between the handles reopens the jaws after each bite, so work keeps a steady rhythm.
Four combinations
Choose 23 cm or 28 cm, each with straight or curved jaws. The 23 cm length suits most limb and pelvic work. Meanwhile, the 28 cm length adds reach and leverage for deep or dense bone.
Where the Stille-Luer rongeur works
Joint replacement surgeons trim osteophytes and bone edges with it. Spine and amputation teams also rely on it. Because its cupped jaws nibble rather than cut, it leaves a rounded edge that is kind to soft tissue.
Nibbling technique
Take small bites from the edge inward, rather than one large bite. Then clear the jaws often so the cups stay sharp. This approach also controls the shape of the final edge.
Why the weight helps
A heavy rongeur feels steady in the hand during long work. Consequently, the jaws stay where you aim them instead of wandering. Many hip surgeons prefer this feel for rim and osteophyte work.
Stille-Luer rongeur options
- 23 cm, straight jaws
- 23 cm, curved jaws
- 28 cm, straight or curved
- Double-action joint, cupped jaws; non-sterile
Keeping a compound joint clean
Open the rongeur fully and flush both pivots, where bone paste collects. After drying, put a drop of lubricant on each joint. Test the spring to make sure the jaws reopen briskly.
Delivery essentials
An Atlanta colleague inspects the Stille-Luer pattern closely before it leaves. This rongeur carries a guarantee for three years against manufacturing defects from delivery. Most units hold a backup rongeur to cover reprocessing time. We also check stock by email. For help with an order, use our buyer FAQ. It pairs well with our Stille rongeur. For background on instrument steels, review ASTM F899. Check our growing orthopedic lineup for the rest of the set.
