Snellen Loop

The Snellen loop is a loop-ended ear instrument for cerumen removal. Clinicians use it to scoop wax and debris out of the ear canal.

Why a loop works for wax

Soft or crumbly wax breaks apart under a hook. Instead, a loop cradles it and lifts it out in one piece. So loops remain a staple on cerumen trays.

Using the Snellen

The clinician first examines the canal with an otoscope. Next, the loop passes behind the wax. Then a gentle withdrawal lifts the wax clear.

Building a cerumen kit

A Snellen works well beside a hook, a curette and an ear syringe. For example, irrigation may soften wax, and then the loop removes the rest. We can suggest a matching hook.

Caring for the Snellen

Wipe off wax after each patient and rinse the instrument. Then brush the loop gently to keep its shape. Dry it and sterilize it before reuse.
