Description
Shepard Radial Keratotomy Incision Irrigating Eye Cannula
The Shepard RK irrigating cannula is a fine, blunt cannula named for radial keratotomy incision work. It attaches to a syringe, so you can send a gentle stream of fluid exactly where you want it. For that reason, many refractive surgeons keep one close on the tray.
Built for spoke-like corneal grooves
Radial keratotomy uses a set of deep, spoke-like cuts in the cornea. After the blade passes, the grooves can hold debris or loose cells. This cannula lets you flush each groove with a light flow. Its slim end sits in the cut without prying the edges apart. As a result, you can rinse first and then inspect the wound under the microscope.
Grip and flow on the RK tray
Pinch the hub lightly and let the heel of your hand settle on the brow or a wrist pad. Then press the plunger slowly. A small syringe gives finer control than a large one, because each push moves less fluid. Also, keep the tip moving along the groove instead of parking it in one spot.
One pattern, nothing to pick
This listing covers a single pattern. There are no size or shape options, so ordering takes one click. In short, you get:
- A fine tube sized for corneal grooves
- Blunt end that rests inside the incision
- Hub that attaches to a syringe
- Stainless body you can reprocess many times
Keeping a fine lumen clear
Fine lumens trap salt and protein if they dry. So flush the tube with water right after the case, then with cleaning solution. Next, dry it with filtered air before you sterilize it. Our Shepard RK irrigating cannula ships non-sterile. However, it serves for many cases once you clean and sterilize it each time.
Ordering the Shepard cannula
We stand behind this cannula for three years against manufacturing defects, counted from the day it ships. Its stainless steel follows the ASTM F899 standard for surgical instruments. You can compare it with other refractive and cataract tools in our eye range. For a cannula that also cuts, see the Kratz-Ziegler knife cannula. Questions about hubs or returns? Shepard cannulas are for professional hands only; our reprocessing page and delivery timeline explain the rest.
