Description
Semm Vaginal Speculum
The Semm vaginal speculum gives each of its two blades its own width. So the upper and lower blades differ, and each size lists both figures.
Reading the sizes
Take 90 mm x 14/18 mm as an example from the range. The 90 mm figure gives the blade length. Then 14 and 18 mm give the upper and lower blade widths in that order.
Three options
The 90 mm size has the slimmest blades of the three. Meanwhile, the 100 x 17/20 mm size adds a little width and length. Finally, the 100 x 25/30 mm size opens the widest view.
Why two widths
Different widths let one blade stay slimmer than the other. That way, you get a mix of room and slimness in one tool. Also, it offers a middle ground between narrow and wide speculum patterns.
Choosing a size
Start with the 100 x 17/20 mm Semm vaginal speculum for general use. However, pick the 90 mm size when space runs tight. By contrast, the widest option suits roomier anatomy and longer procedures.
Reprocessing Semm vaginal speculum
Open the blades and rinse both, since each has its own width to clean. Next, brush the inner faces and let the water drain away fully. Then dry the instrument and store it by size so the three options stay easy to find.
