Self-Centering Forceps With Thread Fixation
These self-centering bone forceps hold bone and plates in alignment with a threaded fixation. Five versions cover small to large bones.
Self-centering
The jaws settle evenly around round bone. Therefore the plate or fragment stays centered under pressure. That reduces rocking during drilling.
Thread fixation
A threaded mechanism locks the jaws at the chosen tension. As a result, the grip stays constant without an assistant. Fine adjustments are easy to make.
Five versions
Versions are listed at 2.5, 6.5, 9.5, 10 and 11 mm. Smaller sizes suit hand and foot bones. Meanwhile, larger sizes suit long bones.
Who uses self-centering bone forceps
Plating cases in the femur and tibia rely on them. In addition, corrective osteotomies benefit from the steady hold. They suit revision work as well.
Adjusting the thread
Tighten the thread gradually while watching the bone. Then stop once the plate sits flat. Over-tightening can crush thin cortex.
Why threads help
A ratchet locks in steps, whereas a thread allows any tension. Consequently, the surgeon can set exactly the right pressure. In addition, that matters on thin or osteoporotic bone.

Thread care
Clean the threads with a brush, since debris stiffens the action. Dry and lubricate the thread and hinge. Check that the jaws still center.
Choosing your forceps
