Description
Schumacher-Van Doren Cervical Biopsy and Specimen Forceps
Schumacher-Van Doren forceps take biopsy samples from the cervix on a 24 cm instrument. Two figures give a choice of 5.0 mm or 7.0 mm bite.
Fig 1 and Fig 2
Fig 1 has a 5.0 mm bite for a compact sample. Meanwhile, Fig 2 opens to a 7.0 mm bite for more tissue. So a clinic can stock one or both.
A combined pattern
The name links two well-known cervical biopsy designs. Therefore, staff familiar with either will adapt quickly. Also, it gives your range another jaw option.
24 cm working length
The instrument measures 24 cm, enough to pass a speculum with ease. In addition, the length keeps the hand clear of the colposcope. As a result, Schumacher-Van Doren forceps stay easy to aim.
Which figure to choose
Choose Fig 1 when the lesion looks small or the site feels tight. However, choose Fig 2 when the pathologist asks for a larger sample. Plus, you can keep both Schumacher-Van Doren forceps on the tray.
Reprocessing Schumacher-Van Doren forceps
Clean each figure separately so the sizes stay sorted. First, rinse and brush the jaws, then flush the joint. Finally, dry the instrument and label its storage slot with the figure number.
