The 180 degree scalpel handle bends at the neck, so the blade sits at an angle to the grip. That offset helps when a straight handle would block your view of the incision line.

Clean the angle carefully, because debris collects where the neck meets the fitting. Also, avoid bending the neck to change its angle, since that strains the steel. Dry the handle before sterilizing it.
