Description
Sauter Air Injection Cannula Curved
The Sauter air injection cannula has a gentle curve along its shaft. That bend follows the dome of the cornea, so the tip enters a side port at a natural angle. You can then place a bubble of filtered air with fine control.
Why the Sauter curve helps
A straight air cannula enters the eye in line with your hand. By contrast, a curved one lets your fingers stay higher while the tip lies flat inside the chamber. As a result, you avoid pressing the wound open. This matters most when you reform a shallow chamber or tamp a graft or flap against the stroma.
Single curved build
This Sauter design comes in one curved form only, so you do not need to pick a size. The listing gives you:
- Curved shaft that tracks the cornea
- Fine tip for small side ports
- Syringe hub for filtered air or fluid
- Steel body made for reprocessing
Placing air with the curve
Clear any fluid from the syringe before you start. Next, rest the curve along the limbus and slide the tip through the port. Inject in short puffs while you watch the bubble grow. Also, withdraw along the same arc so the air stays inside.
Curved versus straight air cannulas
We also list a straight air cannula in 27 and 30 gauge. Choose that one for direct, in-line work. Then pick the Sauter when a side port sits at an awkward angle, or when the brow gets in the way of a straight approach.
Drying a curved bore
Curved bores hold water longer than straight ones. So flush with distilled water, then blow air through until no drops appear. Inspect the bend for kinks before packing. Because the Sauter cannula ships unsterilized, put it through steam before the first case and after each later one.
Sauter cannula guarantee and links
The Sauter curve is backed for three years against manufacturing defects such as a cracked hub or a blocked tube. Shaft steel conforms with ASTM F899. You will find other air and fluid cannulas in the same category. For a straight option, see the 27 and 30 gauge air cannula. Quick answers live on our FAQ page.
