The Roder ligature carrier helps a surgeon place a tie deep in the throat. It carries the ligature to a vessel or pedicle where fingers cannot reach.

Tying a vessel in the tonsil bed can be awkward. Therefore, a ligature carrier takes the thread down and around the target. The surgeon then tightens the tie with good control.
