Description
Retractor Flexible Prong
The flexible prong retractor has tines you can bend to fit the tissue. It measures 16 cm and works as a small hand-held rake.
Bendable tines
You can shape the tines to a curve that suits the wound. Then the rake holds tissue at an angle a rigid hook cannot reach. Also, you can reshape the tines for the next case.
Prong options
Order two, three or four prongs. So a narrow edge takes two, and a wider flap takes four. Plus, the three-prong version sits neatly in between those two.
Tip choice
Sharp tips grip skin with little force. By contrast, blunt tips move tissue more gently near nerves. Therefore many surgeons keep both on hand.
When to choose it
Pick this rake for small incisions with awkward angles. Instead of forcing a straight hook, you shape the prongs to the contour. That way the grip spreads evenly.
Reprocessing flexible prong retractor
Bend the prongs back toward straight before cleaning so brushes reach every surface. Then rinse, scrub and dry each tine. Finally, avoid bending them back and forth many times, since that tires the metal.
