Description
Post Mortem Needle
The post mortem needle closes the body after autopsy. It is stout and curved, with a large eye for heavy thread.
Six figures
We offer figures 1 to 6. Additionally, the figures differ in size and curve. Therefore, staff can pick a needle that suits the incision and tissue.
Why a dedicated post mortem needle
Surgical needles bend in thick tissue. Also, these are heavier. Consequently, closure goes faster with less effort.
Who uses it
Mortuary staff, pathologists and anatomy teams use it. Funeral services also keep them. Many keep two or three figures, so a smaller needle is ready for thinner tissue near the neck.
Threading
Use a strong twine or heavy thread. Thread the large eye and knot it. Then close with even, firm stitches.
Safety
Handle the point with care at all times. Store needles in a closed case with the points facing one way. Also, never leave them loose on a tray.
