The Plester knife is a fine otology knife for ear microsurgery. Otologists use it to make small incisions in the canal skin and to begin flap elevation.

A name from European otology

Dietrich Plester was a noted ear surgeon, and several otology tools carry his name. Our range includes his dissector and retractor too. Together, they share one aim: small, precise tools for middle ear work.

Its job in tympanoplasty

In many ear operations, the first step is a curved cut in the canal skin. Then an elevator or micro dissector lifts the flap toward the drum. Surgeons may also trim tissue at the edge of a perforation with the same blade.

Choosing among ear knives

Most otologists keep blades from more than one pattern. Therefore, they can pick a shape that suits each canal and each incision. If you already use Plester dissectors, this blade keeps the set consistent. Meanwhile, the Rosen and Tabb patterns offer useful alternatives.

Caring for your Plester knife

Keep the edge away from other steel while you wash it. Then rinse it under running water and let it dry on a lint-free towel. Before sterilization, slide it into a slotted holder.
