Obwegeser Soft Tissue Retractor

The Obwegeser soft tissue retractor holds cheeks, lips and other soft tissue back during facial bone surgery. Maxillofacial surgeons use it to keep the field open around the jaws.

Protecting soft tissue

The blade sits between the bone and the soft tissue. As a result, the assistant can pull the tissue aside without crushing it. That also keeps drills and saws away from the cheek.

Lengths and blade sizes

We list the retractor at 21.5 cm and 22 cm. Blades run from 25 x 6 mm through 35 x 8, 40 x 11, 55 x 11 and 70 x 14 mm, up to 80 x 16 mm. Together these make 12 options.

Where it fits in surgery

Surgeons often combine it with a ramus retractor and a channelled chin retractor. For example, one retractor holds the cheek while another guards the bone edge. Meanwhile, the operator works with both hands.

Picking blade sizes

Smaller blades suit narrow access and children. On the other hand, the larger blades help in deep adult fields. Many trays hold two or three sizes so the assistant can switch quickly.

Rinse the blade and handle right after the case. Then brush both faces and the blade tip with a soft brush. Let the blade dry completely, then sterilize the retractor and put it away.
