Description
Molt Periosteal Raspatories
The Molt periosteal raspatory is a classic pattern, here in an 18 cm length. It raises periosteum and tissue flaps from bone with a firm, controlled stroke.
A well-known name
The Molt pattern is familiar in oral surgery, where it lifts gum tissue from bone. This 18 cm version brings the same idea to a slightly larger instrument. So it also suits small-bone orthopedic work.
Blade and edge
The working end has a thin edge that slips under tissue. Then the surgeon lifts or pushes to free the layer. A steady hand keeps the tissue in one piece.
Who uses the Molt periosteal raspatory
In the mouth, surgeons rely on it for flap elevation. Likewise, podiatric and foot teams use it on the metatarsals. It also helps in facial fracture work.
Using it well
Keep the edge pressed against bone, not angled into the soft tissue. Then advance in short steps. As a result, the flap stays healthy and easy to close.
From mouth to hand
Although the Molt name comes from oral surgery, the instrument travels well. For example, it lifts periosteum on metacarpals and metatarsals. Therefore it deserves a spot on more than one tray.

Cleaning
Wipe the blade between steps so tissue never dries on it. At the end of the list, clean it with a soft brush. Then look for nicks along the edge.
