The Milligan retractor is a self-retaining retractor that ear surgeons use to keep a soft tissue incision open. It frees the assistant from holding the wound edges by hand.

Why self-retaining matters in ear surgery

Otology relies on a microscope, so the surgeon needs both hands on instruments. Therefore, a retractor that stays open by itself is a real help. It holds the view steady through long parts of the operation.

Size and teeth

The retractor measures about 13 cm. Also, each arm ends in three teeth, listed as 3×3. That arrangement spreads the pull along the wound edge.

Sharp or blunt prongs

We offer two prong styles. First, sharp prongs anchor well in firm tissue. Blunt prongs, on the other hand, press against the edge more gently.
