McCullough Strabismus Forceps
The McCullough strabismus forceps is a 9.5 cm grasping tool for squint surgery. You can order it with plain tips or with 1×2 teeth. So it handles both delicate tissue and tougher tendon. Pick the tip that suits your main task.
Plain or toothed tips
Plain tips grip without teeth. Therefore, they suit conjunctiva and Tenon’s layer, where you want less trauma. By contrast, 1×2 teeth bite into tendon and hold firm while you suture or cut.
- Length: 9.5 cm
- Plain tips for soft tissue
- 1×2 teeth for tendon and muscle
- Reusable after cleaning
Choosing your McCullough
If you need one forceps for most steps, the toothed version is often the safer pick. However, many surgeons keep both. The plain one handles soft tissue, while the toothed one manages the muscle. In short, two versions cover nearly every step of a routine squint case.
Working length
At 9.5 cm, this forceps fits easily between the lids. Also, it stays light, so fine moves feel natural. Grip it in a pencil hold, with the heel of your hand braced on the brow. Also, its weight stays low, so the tips do not drift.
Caring for both versions
Rinse the tips soon after use. Next, brush toothed tips with extra care, because tissue lodges between them. Then inspect the tips under magnification and replace any forceps with bent points. After that, lay them in a rack so the points stay apart.
McCullough forceps order help
Both versions ship non-sterile. In addition, each McCullough has three years against manufacturing defects. McCullough tips use stainless steel to ASTM F899. If you need more tooth choices, compare the Dastoor strabismus forceps. Our ophthalmic tools page lists the rest, and the FAQ section helps with orders.
Supplied for professional use. Read our sterilization steps first, and see the shipping policy for timing.
