Description
Martin-Langenbeck Elevator
The Martin-Langenbeck elevator lifts periosteum and soft tissue from bone. It is narrower than the matching raspatory, so it suits smaller bones and tighter spaces.
Narrow blades
Widths run 5, 7, 8 and 10 mm. The 5 and 7 mm blades come on a shorter body, while the 8 and 10 mm blades come on a longer one. Therefore you get reach where the wider blades need it.
How it differs from a raspatory
A raspatory usually has a broad, flat edge for long strokes. By contrast, this elevator has a narrower tip for detailed work. Together, the two cover most stripping tasks.
Where the Martin-Langenbeck elevator helps
Hand, foot and facial surgeons use it around small bones. Also, orthopedic teams use it at fracture edges. In addition, it helps lift tissue around plates during removal.
Technique
Slide the tip under the tissue at a cut edge. Then lever gently while keeping contact with bone. Small, controlled moves prevent tearing.
Two body lengths
The shorter body suits the hand, the foot and the face. Meanwhile, the longer body reaches deeper fractures in the limbs. So the four widths cover a broad span of cases.
