Description
Martin-Chevalier Rib Spreader
The Martin-Chevalier rib spreader holds the ribs apart to open the chest. It comes in one size with deep 100 mm blades.
Dimensions explained
B stands for blade width, which measures 27 mm here. Meanwhile, H gives the blade depth of 100 mm. Finally, C shows the spread, which reaches 190 mm.
Deep blades
At 100 mm, the blades reach well below the rib line. So they suit thick chest walls and deep exposures. Also, the narrow 27 mm width keeps the blades from crowding the field or the surgeon’s instruments.
Wide opening
A 190 mm spread gives generous access to the chest cavity. Therefore, the spreader suits major thoracic procedures. Then the team can open it gradually, stopping at the width they need.
Comparing spreaders
Our rib spreaders differ mainly in blade size and spread. For example, the Martin-Chevalier rib spreader has much deeper blades than the Tuffier. However, the Tuffier has wider blades at 45 mm, so the choice depends on the exposure.
Reprocessing Martin-Chevalier rib spreader
Clean the blades and all moving parts thoroughly after each case. Next, open and close the spreader fully to confirm smooth travel. Store it closed in a large tray, away from delicate instruments it could dent.
