Description
Mallet (Steel,Solid)
This solid steel mallet has a heavy metal head for firm, decisive blows. It drives large osteotomes and chisels through dense cortical bone.
All metal, all business
Because the head is solid steel, it delivers a crisp, direct strike. There is no soft face to absorb energy. So it suits tasks where force matters more than finesse, such as long-bone osteotomies.
Two head sizes
The 30 mm head is the lighter, more versatile choice. By contrast, the 50 mm head carries much more mass for heavy work. Pick the size that matches your largest blades.
When to pick a solid steel mallet
Choose it for hip, knee and long-bone cases. It also suits impaction of grafts and components. However, for fine blades, a lighter mallet gives better control.
Protecting your blades
A hard steel face can mark instrument handles over time. Therefore check your osteotome tops for burrs and smooth them during maintenance. Square, centered blows also reduce wear.
Heavy mallets and safety
With a heavy head, a missed blow can hurt soft tissue. Therefore keep the striking path clear and watch the instrument top, not the wound. Also, let an assistant steady the blade when possible.
Solid steel mallet sizes
- Head diameter 30 mm or 50 mm
- One-piece steel construction
- Hard faces for firm blows
- Supplied non-sterile
Care and checks
Wash the head and handle after each case, then dry thoroughly. Look for burrs on the faces and smooth them if needed. Store it where it cannot strike sharp edges.
