Lempert Elevator

The Lempert elevator is an ear surgery elevator. Otologists use it to lift periosteum and ear canal skin during endaural and mastoid procedures.

Its role in ear surgery

Ear surgery often starts by lifting soft tissue off bone. So the surgeon needs a small, controlled elevator. The Lempert therefore serves that purpose around the ear canal and mastoid.

Four blade sizes

We offer blades of 5 mm, 4 mm, 3 mm and 2 mm. The wider Lempert blades cover more surface. Meanwhile, the 2 mm blade works in tight spots close to the canal.

During a procedure

After the incision, the surgeon slides the Lempert under the periosteum, because that layer lifts cleanly. Then careful strokes lift the tissue off the bone. A retractor then holds the flap aside.

Choosing Lempert blades

If you want one general blade, pick 3 or 4 mm. Next, add the 2 mm Lempert for finer work. Teams with a high otology volume often stock all four sizes.

Caring for the Lempert

Rinse the Lempert blade after surgery to clear blood and bone dust. Then brush it gently to protect the edge. Finally, dry the Lempert well and sterilize it in a rack that keeps the edge safe.
