Description
Langenbeck Retractor
The Langenbeck retractor ranks among the most common general-purpose hand retractors in any theater. It measures about 22 cm and has a right-angle blade.
Nine sizes
Blades range from 30 x 11 mm up to 85 x 15 mm. So short blades lift skin and fat, while long ones reach down to muscle. Also, a wide range lets one pattern serve many different cases.
Right-angle blade
The blade turns at a right angle to catch the wound edge cleanly. Then the assistant pulls back with a steady hand. That way the field opens without extra force on the tissue.
Everyday use
General surgeons use it in almost every open case they perform. However, orthopedic and plastic teams rely on it too. Therefore most instrument trays carry at least one pair.
Pairs and sets
Order a Langenbeck retractor in pairs so assistants can work both sides of the wound. Meanwhile, add a long size for deeper layers. As a result, the set covers most openings you will meet.
Cleaning Langenbeck retractor
Rinse each blade straight after the case while soil is still soft. Next, brush the bend and the handle, then rinse again. Finally, dry it and store matching pairs together by size.
