Description
Lane Trethowan Bone Levers
The Lane Trethowan bone lever is a 20 cm instrument for positioning bone. It combines the Lane and Trethowan patterns in one compact lever.
Shorter than the classic
At 20 cm, it is shorter than the standard Lane lever. Therefore it suits medium bones and smaller exposures. It still gives enough leverage to reduce a fracture.
How surgeons use it
The tip slides between fragments or under a bone end. Then a lifting motion brings the pieces into line. Afterward, the surgeon applies forceps or fixation.
Who uses the Lane Trethowan bone lever
Trauma surgeons use it on the forearm, ankle and clavicle. Also, orthopedic teams use it during osteotomies. It sits well on general fracture trays.
Choosing between levers
Pick the 25 cm Lane for large bones. However, choose this 20 cm version for medium bones. Many fracture sets carry both lengths.
When a shorter lever helps
Long levers can be awkward in small wounds. By contrast, a 20 cm lever moves easily without hitting drapes or lights. Consequently, it suits forearm and ankle work especially well.
