Description

Lane Bone Holding Forceps

Lane bone holding forceps are long, strong clamps for long-bone fractures. The long handles give leverage, and an optional ratchet locks the grip.

Ratchet or not

A ratchet locks the jaws so the grip stays constant. By contrast, a forceps without a ratchet lets the surgeon adjust pressure continuously. Both have a place in fracture surgery.

Two lengths

Choose 33 cm or 46 cm. The 33 cm version suits most femur and tibia work. Meanwhile, the 46 cm version adds leverage for large patients and difficult reductions.

Who uses Lane bone holding forceps

Trauma surgeons hold femoral and tibial fractures during plating. Also, they help during intramedullary nailing. Osteotomy fixation benefits as well.

Pairing with Lane levers

The Lane lever brings bone ends into line. Then these forceps hold them while fixation goes in. Consequently, many trauma sets include both.

Handling the long version

The 46 cm forceps needs space above the wound. So plan the approach to let the handles move freely. An assistant can then hold the ratchet once locked.

Long forceps in deep wounds

Long forceps reach bone that sits under heavy muscle. Moreover, the extra length keeps the hand out of the wound. Therefore the surgeon keeps a clear view during drilling.

Lane bone holding forceps options

  • 33 cm, with or without ratchet
  • 46 cm, with or without ratchet
  • Long handles for leverage
  • Supplied non-sterile

Ratchet care

Clean the ratchet teeth carefully, since debris prevents locking. Dry and lubricate the hinge. Test that the ratchet engages and releases smoothly.
