Description
Killian Septum Periosteal Elevator
Gustav Killian helped define submucous septal surgery, and the Killian septum elevator carries that legacy. It lifts the lining from septal cartilage and bone so the surgeon can correct the framework beneath.
Two blade sizes
We offer a 4 x 4 mm blade and a 4.5 x 4.5 mm blade. The difference is small. However, some surgeons feel it clearly in a narrow nose.
Small blade, fine control
A compact blade fits the narrow space between septum and lining. So the surgeon can begin the flap with little force. Then the plane opens gradually as the tip advances.
Where it fits
For example, the surgeon may start with a sharp tool to find the plane. Next, this elevator continues the dissection. Afterward, chisels and forceps address the deviated section.
Choosing a blade
If you already use Killian tools, match the blade you have. Otherwise, the 4 x 4 mm blade suits narrower noses. Meanwhile, the 4.5 x 4.5 mm blade covers slightly more surface per stroke.
Caring for your Killian septum elevator
Wipe the blade clean straight after use. Then wash, rinse and dry it fully. Finally, sterilize it in a tray that protects the small blade.

How to buy a 4 x 4 or 4.5 x 4.5 mm blade
Either blade size includes our three-year warranty covering workmanship defects. We then inspect the small Killian blade by hand in Atlanta before sending it. Our FAQ explains delivery, payment and cleaning. ASTM F899 names the steels that work for small elevators and other surgical instruments. For bone removal later in the case, see the Killian nasal gouge. Also view our ENT instrument pages.
