Description
Keyes Trephine
The Keyes trephine is a hand-held punch with a sharp circular edge. A gentle twisting push cuts a round core of skin for biopsy or excision.
Seven diameters
We stock 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 mm. In addition, small punches take a sample with a tiny wound. Meanwhile, the larger sizes remove a whole small lesion in one pass.
Why a reusable Keyes trephine
A steel punch can be resharpened and sterilised many times. So the cost per biopsy stays low. In addition, the solid handle gives steady control during the twist.
Technique
Stretch the skin across the line of least tension. Then press and rotate the punch until it drops through the dermis. Finally, lift the core with fine forceps and cut its base.
Who uses it
Dermatologists, GPs and plastic surgeons keep a set. Besides, it suits clinic and theatre work alike. Moreover, many choose three or four sizes to cover common lesions.
