Description
Katzin Corneal Section Scissors
Katzin corneal section scissors cut along the curve of the cornea. Each pair works in one direction, so we offer left and right versions. Most surgeons keep both on the tray.
Why left and right versions exist
A corneal cut often follows a circle. One pair can cut smoothly one way, but it fights you going the other way. So a matched set lets you finish the circle without twisting your wrist. Then the edge stays even all the way round.
Use in corneal transplant work
Surgeons often link the Katzin pattern with corneal transplant, or keratoplasty. There, the scissors help complete the cut around the cornea. They may also help in other corneal section work. In each case, the aim is a clean, even edge.
Choosing your orientation
Your choice depends on the cut and your hand.
- Right: cuts in one direction around the cornea.
- Left: cuts the other way.
- Both: lets you finish a full circle smoothly.
Checking the pair before surgery
Look at the blade tips under a loupe before you pack. They should meet cleanly with no gap. Next, open and close them slowly to feel for grit. If the action feels rough, clean the joint again.
Telling the two apart on the tray
Left and right pairs look alike at a glance. For this reason, many teams mark them with tape or keep them in labeled slots. That way, the scrub nurse hands the right pair first time.
Katzin order and warranty
