Description
Hoen Dura Dissector
The Hoen dura dissector separates the dura mater from the bone that covers it. Surgeons use it during craniotomy and spinal cases, when the dura must stay intact as bone comes away.
Protecting the dura
The dura lies directly under the skull and the lamina. So before a surgeon cuts or bites bone, a dissector often slides between the two layers. As a result, the membrane moves away from the cutting edge and stays whole.
Figure 1 and Figure 2
We list two patterns, Figure 1 and Figure 2, each 15 cm long. The figures differ in the shape of the working ends. However, because catalog sketches vary, we suggest you contact us for a photo of each figure before choosing.
A compact length
At 15 cm, the Hoen dura dissector suits work near the surface of the wound. For instance, it fits well around a burr hole or along the edge of a laminectomy. Longer dissectors then take over for deeper spaces.
Choosing between the figures
Many surgeons keep both figures on the tray, since each end shape suits a different angle. Also, the pair costs little space in a set. If you want just one, tell us how you use it and we can recommend a figure.
Caring for your Hoen dura dissector
Wipe both ends during the case to stop blood from drying. Then rinse and brush the dissector, and check the edges for nicks under good light. Afterward, dry it thoroughly and sterilize it with the rest of the tray.
