Description
Hess Conjunctival Forceps, 1×2 Teeth, 0.3mm
The Hess conjunctival forceps has fine 1×2 teeth that measure 0.3mm. It also comes in two lengths, 7cm and 9cm. The bite is small but sure, which makes it a steady choice for lifting and holding conjunctiva.
7cm or 9cm: which to order
The 7cm size sits short and close to the eye. It suits quick steps where you rest your hand on the face. By contrast, the 9cm size gives more room between your fingers and the tip. Pick it if you like a longer pencil grip or work around a speculum.
What a 0.3mm bite does
Teeth of 0.3mm grip with purpose yet leave a small mark. They hold slick tissue that a smooth tip would lose. Even so, they stay gentle enough for thin layers.
Where the pattern helps
Many surgeons use toothed conjunctival forceps when they open the conjunctiva, for example in strabismus or pterygium surgery. It also helps when you close the layer at the end of a case.
Checks before you use it
- All three teeth meet in a clean line
- The tips close with no gap
- Spring action stays even
- No dull or bent teeth under a loupe
Caring for fine teeth
Fine teeth catch debris, so flush the Hess jaws quickly and brush with care. Also store both lengths in slots so the tips stay apart from heavier tools.
Hess forceps ship non-sterile and hold up to repeat use once you clean and sterilize them. Their jaws use stainless steel per ASTM F899. We cover both Hess lengths for three years against manufacturing defects; Hess buyers pay nothing extra.
