Description
Halsey Needle Holder
The Halsey needle holder is a small 13 cm holder for skin and plastic closures. You can choose smooth or serrated jaws.
Smooth or serrated
Serrated jaws hold the needle firmly against rotation. By contrast, smooth jaws leave fine sutures free of marks. Both jaw types share the same slim tip.
Carbide mini version
The gold-handled carbide option carries a mini serration. So it gives a finer, longer-lasting grip than plain steel. That makes the carbide Halsey needle holder a good daily workhorse.
Slim and short
A narrow tip suits cosmetic closures and small wounds. Meanwhile, the 13 cm body puts your fingers near the tissue. Fine bites become easier to place evenly.
Choosing a jaw
Choose smooth jaws for fine monofilament skin sutures. Instead, serrated jaws suit braided threads and firmer needles. Many plastic surgeons stock both versions of the Halsey needle holder. Also, smooth and serrated pairs look alike, so label them in your tray system. That habit prevents mix-ups mid-case.
Reprocessing Halsey needle holder
Rinse the jaws before residue dries in the serration. Then soak and brush them, paying attention to the box lock. After drying, test the ratchet and look over the tips.
