Description
Elliot Conjunctival Forceps, 1×2 Teeth
The Elliot conjunctival forceps gives you a sure hold on thin tissue at the eye surface. It measures 10cm and closes on 1×2 teeth. Surgeons often reach for it when they open or close the conjunctiva, for example around a glaucoma site.
A grip for slippery layers
Conjunctiva and the tissue beneath it move easily. With teeth, however, you can lift a fold and keep it there. Then the other hand is free to cut, dissect or place a stitch.
Elliot or O’Connor?
Both patterns share a 10cm length and 1×2 teeth. In practice, the choice comes down to how the tips and handle feel in your hand. So many surgeons try both and keep the one that suits their grip.
Steps where it helps
- Raising a flap as the case opens
- Holding the edge while you undermine
- Pulling the layer back over the site
- Bringing edges together for closure
Holding it well
Grip the forceps like a pen, with the tips just past your fingers. Rest the side of your hand on the brow or drape. This way, small finger moves turn into precise tip moves. It also cuts fatigue during a long case.
Elliot jaws after surgery
Soak and rinse the jaws soon after use. Next, check the teeth for bends under good light. Lastly, store the forceps so the tips do not touch other tools.
Each piece ships non-sterile, and it can go back into service after cleaning and sterilization. The steel conforms to ASTM F899 for surgical instruments. Should a flaw appear, Elliot buyers hold Elliot cover for three years against manufacturing defects; Elliot invoices serve as proof.
