The Doyen tongue depressor holds the tongue down for a view of the mouth and throat. ENT and oral clinicians use it during examination and in short procedures.

Why a steel depressor

Disposable wooden blades can flex and splinter. In contrast, a steel blade stays firm and lasts. Also, you can clean and sterilize it again and again.

Three lengths

We offer the Doyen pattern at 13 cm, 15 cm and 16 cm. The 13 cm length suits smaller mouths, such as children. Meanwhile, the 15 and 16 cm lengths reach further for adults.

In the clinic and theatre

Clinicians use it to look at the tonsils, pharynx and palate. For example, it helps during a throat check with a head light. It also serves in theatre when a quick view of the mouth helps.

Choosing a length

First, think about the ages of your patients. Then pick one or two lengths to cover them. Many practices keep a 13 cm and a 16 cm depressor so both groups have a fit.

Caring for your Doyen tongue depressor

Rinse the depressor after each patient. Next, scrub the Doyen blade with mild soap and nylon bristles. Finally, let it dry and sterilize it before reuse.
