Desmarres Chalazion Forceps

The Desmarres chalazion forceps is a lid clamp for chalazion surgery. One jaw is a solid plate and the other an open ring. You place the ring over the lesion, tighten the screw, and the clamp holds the lid steady while limiting bleeding.

Why surgeons clamp the lid

A chalazion sits within the tarsal plate. To drain it, you usually evert the lid and incise from the inner side. The clamp holds the lid everted and presses around the lesion. As a result, the field stays dry and still while you incise and curette.

Placing the Desmarres clamp

Center the ring over the chalazion on the conjunctival side. Then turn the screw until the clamp grips firmly but not hard. Next, evert the clamp and lid together. Afterward, release the screw slowly once you finish.

Desmarres or Lordan

Both clamp the lid for chalazion work. However, the Desmarres offers three figures, while the Lordan comes in a single 9cm form. Choose the Desmarres if you want a size range.

Cleaning the screw and jaws

Blood can collect around the screw thread. So open the clamp fully and brush the thread and jaws after each case. Rinse, then dry the thread with air. Our Desmarres clamps ship unsterilized and cope well with frequent autoclaving.
