Description
D’Assumpcao Forceps
The D’Assumpcao forceps marks the amount of skin to remove in breast reduction. Its jaws pinch the skin, and the points mark where the cuts should go.
With or without ratchet
The ratchet version holds the jaws at a set opening. As a result, you can mark both sides at the same width. Meanwhile, the plain version gives a free, quick feel.
How D’Assumpcao forceps help planning
Breast reduction depends on even skin removal. These forceps measure it directly on the patient. Consequently, closure tension stays balanced.
Typical use
Plastic surgeons use it in reduction and lift surgery. It also helps in some abdominoplasty planning. Usually it appears at the marking stage, before the first incision.
Technique
Pinch the skin until closure looks comfortable. Then press to mark the points. Next, check the same width on the other side.
Length
Both versions run 15 cm. Additionally, that size fits easily in the hand. Also, the jaws stay in clear view.
Planning tips
First, mark the midline and fold with a skin pen. After that, use the forceps to test closure at several points. Consequently, the final pattern reflects the tissue you actually have.
